It was widely discussed in Gallup, when I was growing up, that fuck-ups FBI agents were sent to the Big Rez, aka the Gallup office. Tony Hillerman put that regularly in his Chee and Leaphorn novels. But, since the FBI regularly recruited at BYU, they should have been "back home" to a degree in some cases.
None in Alabama? When I was stationed at Fort Rucker, Alabama, back in the late '60's, they had one in Dothan, Alabama. I know because FBI agents from that office came to my office at the Adjutant General's office to review personnel records of deserters (a Federal offense.) They would send notices to the individual's home town police department to pick up the individual if they went there. Maybe budget cuts forced them to close it down?
Dan, have you forgotten me? Call me and I may be able to clear up some of the "problems" you cite in your article. It was unclear from your article, are you in favor of an independent FBI or should the agency be under the control of the United States Dept. of Justice, an agency of the Executive branch?
Incredible research looking forward to reading more about the obviously dysfunctional FBI and the different ways it functions to fulfill its mandate, or not!

Yeah well, from what I’ve heard, it’s still happening!
Why so many offices in Oklahoma?
